The Caravan of Fools

The Caravan of Fools are an acoustic band in Rockbridge County Virginia.  Holly Ostby and Ben Worth began the path towards the band during the Covid winter of 2020.  Playing music on the screened in porch with masks, space heaters and hand warmers to find some peace and fun.  Burr Datz joined on in the spring of 2021 and the band was formed.  Lee Sauder then sat in on a gig, the chemistry was there and now there are 4 Fools.  With John Prine songs a frequent staple of their playing, what better way to name the band than with a tribute to John and a song from his last album.  The Fools love performing and entertaining the audience with songs from John Prine to Keb Mo to Elvis Costello to Janis Joplin, the Dead, The Band and more.

This annual summer series is a local treasure. It is so refreshing to attend a Friday night event where family, friends and neighbors can enjoy great local music in a relaxing atmosphere. The concerts are also kid and pet-friendly, affordable, easily accessible and welcoming to everyone.

Musicians take the stage at 6:30 and conclude at 8pm as the sun goes down. The gate opens at 5:30 pm so that early arrivers can meet up with friends to picnic, socialize, or get a bite to eat. This year, food truck vendor Troy Sheller with LexVegas Bistro will join us for all the concerts.

Admission to Music in the Garden is free for kids and current Boxerwood members and $5 per adult for non-members. There's no charge for parking in the field. We have handicapped parking and the terrain is suitable for wheelchairs.

Bring your own beverages, lawn chairs, blankets. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome as long as you clean up after them. In the Boxerwood tradition, our gatherings are zero waste, so please be mindful and pack out your trash.
