Come Plant Trees on April 27

On Saturday, April 27, Boxerwood is sponsoring one final tree planting of the season – and it’s for individuals and families alike. RSVP below to help plant native seedlings along Wood's Creek at Sarah's Run from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.  Then, bring a picnic over to Boxerwood for tree giveaways & family fun.

Part of our “Everyday is Earth Day” events, the tree planting will help Woods Creek thrive by enhancing the streamside forest that regulates water temperature, filters pollutants, and reduces soil erosion.  Additionally, our new young trees (currently in planting pots) will bring even more beauty to the Wood's Creek trail that so many people enjoy.

We do need to know you are coming since we have a limited number of trees. Meet us in the Waddell Elementary parking area at 10:00 am.  Please dress to plant and bring a reusable water bottle.

This 2024 tree planting also honors the life and environmental legacy of Mollie Messimer, Boxerwood's first education steward, who passed away early this year.  Woods Creek Restoration was one of Mollie’s signature events!

Also on April 27, everyone is invited to bring their own picnic and join us in the Boxerwood field around 12:30 p.m. to continue our Earth Day celebration. Boxerwood has 100 tree seedlings to give away, and we’ll also have a tree-themed craft for children. As a finale we will be planting and dedicating six American chestnut trees that donated in honor of Mollie (whose memorial will be Saturday, May 18 at Boxerwood at 1:00pm).
